Welcome to the British Disabled Fencing Association Website.
This exciting sport was developed by Sir Ludwig Guttmann at the Stoke Mandeville Hospital. It was introduced at the 1960 Paralympic Games in Rome and is a thriving national and international sport with over 25 competing nations.
The BDFA has something for everyone and can provide a path to becoming a paralympic champion, a regular workout among friends or a social base with the odd bit of excercise thrown in. In other words it is as intense and ambitious as you want it to be.
The BDFA can provide equipment for beginners and once you have been bitten by the fencing bug you will no doubt wish to buy your own. This website has information on what to buy and where to get it from.
